Campfire and Milky Way, Camp Sossus, Namibia
Part of Sol Collection

The people behind Sol.

Sol began with Friedrich’s knowledge of Namibia and Olivia’s curiosity about the places she was discovering. Today, it brings those two ways of seeing together: a guide’s understanding of the land and an architect’s eye for how we spend time in it.

Friedrich & Olivia

Friedrich Setzkorn is a Namibian guide whose interests run from wildlife and climbing to the communities and landscapes he knows at home. Olivia Haynie Lara is an American architect and pilot, drawn to remote places, thoughtful buildings and the conversations that happen along the way. Together, they created Sol Collection, of which Sol Safaris is a part.

What stays with us

When Olivia looks back through her Namibia journal, the famous places sit alongside smaller memories: stopping for lunch at Camp Kipwe and falling for its organic architecture, learning in a small aircraft at Swakopmund, and cooking over a fire after a day following elephants. These are the details that inform Sol. A trip needs enough space for them to happen.

A journey that feels like yours

We want to know which parts of travel you love and which you would happily skip. You might care about a beautiful room, an excellent walking guide, or a few nights with no reason to get in a car. Those preferences should shape the journey from the beginning.
